S&S Designs Perform Well in 2017 Rolex Sydney to Hobart Race
Starting on Boxing Day in the Southern Hemisphere as an annual tradition, 4 S&S Designs contested the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Race over the holiday period. Entered were the legendary DORADE (#0007) and KIALOA II (#1713), along with a Nautor Swan 65 named EVE (#2110) and S&S 34 named KOMATSU AZZURO (#1959) rounding out the fleet. The weather shaped up to be an absolutely smashing 2 days of downwind sailing down the coast of Australia in 20-30 knots of boat-breaking wind, before a day working slowly to the finish in Hobart. Sailing well through the tricky conditions at the end, Dorade sailed over the finish line in 2nd place in IRC-4 and ORCi-4, while EVE notched a 3rd place in ORCi-3 and 2nd in the Corinthian division, after participating in a successful MOB recovery. While Kialoa II did not manage to score any hardware, she finished in good order despite having snapped her boom on Day 2 of the race and despite this still managed to cut 6 hours off the time she posted the last time she sailed this race – winning Line Honors in 1971. Well Done Teams!
