S&S Design No. 2579 demonstrates a true team approach to luxury motoryacht design as Sparkman & Stephens provides the naval architecture and engineering, R.E. Dertecktor, Inc. of Mamaroneck are the builders, with the exterior styling and interior design provided by Richard Liebowitz Design of New York.
One of the challenges given to S&S in the engineering of this 104'6" semi-planing yacht was a cruising speed and sprint speed requirement. This was met by a triple-screw system. In cruising mode the two outboard MTU 8V396TE94 engines, each providing 1,467 horsepower, power conventional propellers through ZF V-drive gearboxes. When the sprint speed is required all three engines are used, with the centerline Arneson drive unit being lowered into the water. It is powered by a single MTU 12V183TE92, 985 horsepower, engine. This combination system meant that the outboard propellors operate efficiently at both cruising and sprint speeds.
The yacht will provide accommodation for 12 in the owner's party and a crew of five. The interior will be finished in hardwood veneers with a large main deck owner's suite with whirlpool and stall shower, four assymetrical guest staterooms below deck, including a VIP suite with queen-size bed and a lounge that converts into a double sleeper. There is a main deck powder room, an aft wet bar that serves both the aft deck and the main saloon through a six-foot window operated hydraulically. There is also a full walk-around superstructure and a swim deck accessed by stairs from the large aft deck. |
