In modernizing their Heritage line of yachts, the designs of which date to the company’s founding, Grand Banks commissioned Sparkman & Stephens to revamp the line for the 21st century yet be recognizable as a Grand Banks. S&S responded with a tank-tested modified deep-vee hull that harnesses the performance of modern diesel engines while maintaining economical cruising, propeller tunnels that reduce noise and increase efficiency, styling that is true to Grand Banks tradition yet modern in detail and execution, generously proportioned interiors, modern construction techniques, exemplified by high-strength unidirectional fibers in the stringers, and useful enhancements such as an engine room access via an exterior stair and hiding fly bridge instrumentation. The collaboration with Grand Banks continued in secret for over a year until the two styles, Classic and Europa, were shown to the press who bestowed extensive accolades. Since its introduction in 2005, Grand Banks has taken orders for 80 hulls.
