Designed by Sparkman & Stephens, built by PLYM in 1953 Olinka has been cared for by four owners in sixty seven years, thirty two of those years under the current ownership.
Considered the most strongly built of her size and era, Olinka is sound. Her decking needs replacing and the interior is in need of refinishing. She is the last of the ‘classic’ 65 footers from Sparkman & Stephens on the market.

Classic Sparkman & Stephens Yawl
Olinka, built buy PLYM in Sweden is considered to be the most strongly built of her era. African mahogany fastened with copper rivets to laminated oak on 14" centers. With teak floor timbers bolted with bronze to her frames she remains in excellent structural condition.
Commissioned by a Swedish client who used her for summer ‘day-sailing, she was kept in a covered shed (with an opening for her masts). In 1973 she was purchased by a California movie producer and sailed to San Diego. Sparkman & Stephens designed a keel modification with work performed at Driscoll Yacht Yard and she thrived in ocean racing on the west coast from San Diego to San Francisco.
Race results include; 1976 Tall Ships Bermuda to Newport RI; 2nd to finish, 1st in class 2nd overall. 1977 WoodenBoat Regatta; New course record. 1978 Los Angeles to Mazatlan 1st in class, 1st Divided rig. 1974 Marina del Rey to San Diego; 2nd to finish, 1st in class, 1st overall. 1975 Ensenada race; 3rd to finish, 1st in class, 2nd overall. 1975 Puerto Vallarta Race; 3rd to finish 2nd in class. 1975 Petit St. Vincent Race Week; New course record in Union Island Race.
Her topsides were ‘wooded’ in 1973 and last painted 18 years ago. The bottom was ‘wooded’, long blocked and epoxy coated in 2014. Examining her closely last month I was impressed at her condition.
Under the same ownership since 1988 she has been undergoing continual refit work. This history is documented in Wooden Boat Magazine and available through their Forum.
The aluminum spars have remained in the boat since 1988 and a survey in 2019 revealed all rigging was in good condition.
Following a flooding incident last year, her engine was replaced. The reinstallation underway as of this writing.
With the integrity of her hull intact and the bilges in immaculate condition it is time for a new ‘steward’ to complete the current restoration. The interior needs to be refinished and her teak deck replaced.
Olinka has been loved and enjoyed as a ‘family friendly’ boat under this ownership for 33 years. She is ready to join and be enjoyed by another family.
